The Bacon Brothers Relate with Music

Kevin Bacon leads a double life, as the actor we've seen in "Footloose,""Mystic River" (and more films) and as his brother Michael's bandmate in The Bacon Brothers. His musical life takes center stage when The Bacon Brothers perform their original blend of music at Ridgefield Playhouse on April 29 at 8 p.m.Born nine years apart, Michael began his professional career as a musician in the late sixties. Kevin was his younger acolyte, mesmerized by music his brother played or brought home.  "I would sit on the steps of our basement while he was downstairs practicing with our sister, Hilda, and their band," Kevin says on his website. "So my heroes growing up were all rock 'n' rollers. I wasn't really into sports, or even movies. If I could save money I'd buy an album."

Since 1995, Kevin and Michael Bacon have been performing together and writing their own music. Kevin's movie career has brought them fans -- but also upped the ante to prove himself musically. According to The New Yorker, this mission is accomplished. It said, "Hollywood hangs like an albatross around the neck of any movie star turned musician, but this duo shakes off the burden of fame with sharply executed rock that has a blue-collar, rootsy edge."

The Bacons have dubbed their musical style "Forosoco." As Kevin told an interviewer, "It stands for Folk, Rock, Soul, Country. It was a new category of music that we made up... We have a lot of different influences. We like a lot of different kinds of music. We try to write the song and then let the song take you musically where it’s trying to go." See the Bacon Brothers at Ridgefield Playhouse and be a passenger on their musical journey that is well worth taking. Tickets are $65. For more information, visit the Playhouse's website.
