String Along with Geils and Beaudoin

The name J. Geils sound familiar? It does if you remember the 60s or 70s or 80s, when it was connected to the blues influenced rock group, J. Geils Band. Now, the J has given way to Jay and Massachusetts-born Geils has circled back to his original jazz roots, fostered during his student days at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Tonight, July 4, Geils shows off his new musical persona, in a free performance at 7 p.m. at Westport's Levitt Pavilion. Taking the stage with him is veteran jazz guitarist Gerry Beaudoin. Beaudoin is a Grammy-nominee who has jammed with the greats: Duke Robillard, Bucky Piazzarella, Frank Vignola. He's also known as an arranger and producer, with his own record label (Francesca Records). One of his signature talents is his skill with the 7-string jazz guitar. Combine this with Jay Geils' innovative guitar work, backed by the Kings of Strings (mandolin and violin) and their acoustic gypsy-style story might open up a new musical chapter for you, too.  For more information, visit The Levitt's website.
