Scrooge Cavorts for Kids

There's the story of Christmas and then, in the number two slot, there's "A Christmas Carol." For kids, Theatreworksusa has created a completely child-friendly musical interpretation of Dickens's classic with plenty of laughs and a passel of lessons built in. It runs at Fairfield University's Quick Center,  Sunday, Dec. 19, for two performances, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

In it, kids will meet miserly Mr. Bah Humbug, Ebenezer Scrooge and watch as his mean, selfish ways make other people sad and unhappy. Then, they'll see his transformation, after a succession of spirits, the ghost of his dead business partner, Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Yet-to-Come, give him an unvarnished look at his bad behavior and what's going to come of it. The show was designed to pass along Dickens's message that the holidays should encourage us to be our best selves because they are a "kind, forgiving, charitable time,"

Laure Graeber in The New York Times called the show "A thorough delight -- inspired, funny and intimate." Your children will likely feel the same vibe. Tickets are $12 and $15. For more information, visit the Quick Center's website.
