Screen Writing with Katie Torpey at Ridgefied

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Did you ever want to write a screenplay?

If so, the Ridgefield Playhouse has asked writer and actress Katie Torpey to teach a class.

Torpey is an author, screenwriter and director who has worked for several Hollywood studios and television networks. In 2005, her screenplay “The Perfect Man” starred Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear and Chris Noth.

She also wrote and directed the feature film “Truth About Kerry” which starred Stana Katic and won best screenplay at the 2010 La Femme Film Festival. She also has written a book, “Just Breathe,” about her 130-pound weight loss and spiritual transformation.

In Torpey’s class, students will learn how to create a series bible, as well as write the pilot episode. The class will focus on developing a plot, structuring the series for longevity and capturing a theme while developing complex characters.

The course objective is to help students create, develop and write original TV shows that could potentially be sold to Hollywood.

The class is for adults only, and will begin Sept. 18; it will be from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Nov. 20.

There is tuition of $300 for the course; for more information or to sign up, call 203-438-5795 or visit the website.
