Quartet Dazzles with its Music

"String quartets don’t get much better than the St. Petersburg Quartet." "Incredible technical facility…and seemingly effortless precision.” When a review glows as brightly as these remarks from the Toronto Globe, run, don't walk, to get tickets to the Quartet's next concert - which happens to be this Sunday, May 23, in New Canaan. The members of this remarkable Russian ensemble are Alla Aranovskaya, first violin; Alla Krolevich, second violin; Boris Vayner, viola; and Leonid Shukayev, cello. They have won many international competitions.

Their program at Waveny Carriage Barn begins at 4 p.m. and includes Nadaresjshvili’s Quartet No. 1; Beethoven’s Quartet No. 6 in B flat major, Op. 18; Tsintsadze’s Five Miniatures on Jewish Themes; and Arensky’s Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 35.  Zurab Nadaresjshvili (who has written works specifically for the Quartet) and Sulkhan Tsintsadze are Georgian composers. Tickets are $30.  Parking is free. The Carriage Barn is located at 677 South Avenue, New Canaan. For more information, call (203) 966-5976.
