Professor Louie & The Crowmatix Ace It

Professor Louie & The Crowmatix coalesced as a group in 2001, after working as back-up singers and instrumentalists for other performers. Their homebase is Woodstock, NY and, fittingly, also their label's (Woodstock Records), for whom they've recorded eight CDs. Heavyweights in the music scene, group members have long and colorful resumes to prove it. Multi-instrumentalist & vocalist Aaron "Professor Louie" Hurwitz worked with Rick Danko, David Nelson, Garth Hudson, and others. He also traveled three times to Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia where he taught students English by singing to them, and performed with resident musical groups. A documentary of his experiences, "Woodstock-Siberia Blues Express," was entered in the Woodstock Film Festival and The International Maine Film Festival.Gary Burke, drummer, accompanied Bob Dylan and Graham Parker, as well as working on more than a dozen Joe Jackson albums. Frank Campbell, bass player, toured for two decades with The Rick Danko-Levon Helm travelling show. Singer-songwriter Marie Spinosa led her own groups for many years and also had stints as a percussionist. Rhythm & blues guitarist Josh Colow shared the stage and studio with Jesse Winchester, Livingston Taylor and Artie Traum, among others. His group, TiPiCal, had Italy's number one song in the 90s.

Put them together and these eclectic musicians score a deep and textured sound all their own. The Village Voice said, "Professor Louie's upstate ensemble is an Americana template that is timeless rock, country, blues and New Orleans influenced originals." After their Levitt Pavilion performance on August 20, you'll give them high marks. The concert is free and begins at 8 p.m.
