Oyster Fest Sends Off Summer

Here comes the summer's big finish! It goes out with a bang at The Norwalk Oyster Festival, where you'll be awash in food, entertainment, rides and fun finds to buy (and so much more.) For three days, September 10-12, this gigantic outdoor gala sprawls across Veterans Memorial Park's 36 acres.  Drop in on its New England village for interactive displays, demonstrations and exhibits. Watch skydiving or interact with a waterfront pirate encampment to taste seafaring life from 1650-1750. Indulge your decorating jones at the arts and crafts tents or root for solar powered model race cars comepeting in a grand prix at the Getting Greener Pavilion. There's an oyster shucking contest and an oyster slurping contest. Non-stop live performances feature family entertainment as well as headliners 10,000 Maniacs and Adam Currie among others. New this year are BMX and MotoCross stunt shows spotlighting the sport's national champions.

Even better, it's all for a good cause. The Oyster Festival's proceeds help support the Norwalk Seaport Association's educational programs, its stewardship of the 1868 Sheffield Island Lighthouse, Norwalk Islands habitat restoration projects with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and more. Other non-profits benefit from running their booths at the festival, making it a win-win. Visit this over-the-top celebration to cap the summer, before settling in for a more sedate season, fall.
