“Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the museum’s Multi-Media Gallery at Mathews Park.
Newman gained fame as an actor, director, entrepreneur and humanitarian. But he also was a passionate race car driver and the owner of a racing team.
He was reportedly bitten by the bug after his lead role in the 1969 film “Winning,” where he portrayed a rising star on the race circuit who dreamed of winning the Indianapolis 500.
Shortly before Newman died in 2008 at the age of 83, the Lime Rock Park race track in Lakeville was, according to media reports, closed briefly so he could take a few last laps in his GT1 Corvette.
The 83-minute-long film was co-produced by Adam Corolla and Nate Adams.
Bob Sharp, a Sherman resident and Newman’s longtime racing partner, will provide commentary and take part in a Q&A after the screening.
The one-time event will raise funds for the non-profit New England Auto Museum, an automotive arts and technology organization.
Refreshments will be served before the show. Classic cars will be on display in the museum’s courtyard.
