Morning Joe Hosts To Lead Book Talk

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, co-hosts of MSNBC’s popular weekday morning program "Morning Joe," will headline a book discussion sponsored by the Ladies Who Launch of Southwestern Connecticut.

The event will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at J. McLaughlin’s, 1026 Post Road E., Westport. J. McLaughlin will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University.

Kathy McShane, director of Ladies Who Launch in Southwestern Connecticut, organized the event to provide members as well as the public with the opportunity to hear best-selling author Brzezinski talk about her new book, “Knowing Your Value – Women, Money and Getting What You’re Worth.”  It looks at the role of women in the workplace and, specifically, the fight to gain recognition and a fair salary.

“I know that most women in business have difficulty negotiating for themselves,” says McShane, who has seen the phenomenon play out in her 25-year career in marketing and product/brand development for major financial institutions, as well as her own company. “What I aim to do at LWL is to educate and motivate my ladies so that they can better run their businesses.

"When Mika came out with her book, I thought it was a great opportunity to see if she would come share with us what she experienced.”  McShane hopes it will not only demonstrate that successful women can struggle, too, but also offer real lessons on how to overcome this stumbling block to successful entrepreneurship.

Scarborough and Brzezinski will share stories of their experiences as an award-winning TV news team. This will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
