Meet up with "Mamma Mia!"

The musical "Mamma Mia!" is practically an industry. For nine years, it's run on Broadway, played 4,500 performances in London and cut a swath as a 2008 Hollywood film, starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. The movie grossed over $600 milllion worldwide, surpassing all other musical films. Now, you can see what all the fuss is about when "Mamma Mia!" takes over the Shubert Theater's stage from Jan. 11 through 16.Clearly a phenomenon, "Mamma Mia!" is based on another phenomenon, the songs of ABBA, the immensely successful Swedish pop music group. ABBA's soaring popularity through the 70s to early 80s later led to the creation of tribute bands and, in 2010, the group's induction into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. The music of ABBA's songwriters, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, powers "Mamma Mia's" story about a single mother who reconnects with three important men from her past at her daughter's wedding. Though the show takes place in one 24 hour period, there are many twists and turns. Woven in throughout the show are ABBA’s blockbuster songs, including “Dancing Queen," “S.O.S.”,“Money, Money, Money,” “Take a Chance on Me” and more. Come see this exuberant musical experience and as millions of fans worldwide can attest, you'll feel the love. Performance times vary. Tickets are $18 to $72.
