Mathes Makes Merry in Stamford

Fan favorite Rob Mathes, aka Mr. Christmas, returns to Connecticut to mark his favorite holiday by performing his 17th annual concert. His yearly yuletide show takes place Dec. 18 at 8 p.m., at Stamford's Palace Theatre. The Grammy and Emmy-nominated singer brings in the heavyweights to amp up the celebration. On stage, he'll be backed by world-class musicians, including bassist Will Lee of David Letterman's "CBS Orchestra" and guitarist Billy Masters, the 30+ member Choir of Saints and Friends and award-winning vocalists including James "D-Train" Williams, and others. This talented troupe performs Mathes's special mix of holiday originals and long-time classics in a powerfurl and pleasing evening of Christmas cheer.

For Mathes, 2010 was another year of overlapping projects. Recently, he directed a "Christmas in Washington" TV special. He also worked on the annual Kennedy Center Honors, co-producing as well as arranging the acclaimed Symphonicities album with Sting, and co-produced Glee star Matthew Morrison's debut solo CD.

As a songwriter, Rob's songs have been recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Oleta Adams, Aaron Neville, Rascal Flatts, Wynonna Judd and Vanessa Williams among many others. Mathes helps nurture talent as well as sharing his own, as he'll do on Dec. 18. His Christmas Concert benefits a favorite charity, Through the Eyes of Children: The Rwanda Project, an award-winning non-profit photography project for orphaned children in Rwanda. Concert tickets are $35-$55. For more information, visit the Palace's website.
