Join in Seasonal Games and Pie Eating

New Canaan Nature Center's 40 acres of diverse natural habitats and extensive facilities give visitors a tall drink of outdoor life. Their apple cider house, animal care building, herb garden and 4,000 square foot greenhouse can quench most anyone's thirst for the natural world. But get ready to take another giant gulp when the Nature Center stirs things up at its Fall Fair, on October 16. Autumn-themed activities for adults and children make a memorable family concoction. Take a pony ride, scoot through a hay maze, dabble in crafts and games, and get to work on pumpkin primping. Climb a giant rock wall, don a harness to scale a tree or take aim with an apple slingshot. Work up an appetite for the Fair's delicious food: cider doughnuts from Plasko’s Farm, fresh soups and breads, hot dogs, pizza, hot & cold beverages and a selection of home baked goods will satisfy. But leave room for the "no hands allowed" pie eating contest! There is also live music and birds of prey and reptile demonstrations. Local artisans, including a rug hooker, weaver, potter, knitter, jewelry maker and an encaustic artist, give demonstrations and offer unique, handcrafted items for sale. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. The pie eating contest takes place at 3 p.m. Admission is free but activity tickets are $1. For more information, visit the Nature Center's website.
