Good Times Roll at First Night

Don't worry about the New Year's Eve forecast. First Night Westport Weston 2011 has you covered, with its close by, cosy venues where family entertainment keeps New Year's Eve warm and sunny. First on the downtown Westport party schedule is a 3 p.m. Seabury Center screening of "The Legend of Silk Boy." This animated film tells the story of a young boy who finds a magical world. At 4 p.m., several First Night venues come to life at once. At Westport Library, Dennis the Train Man holds court, showing off his extensive collection of trains. Over at the Westport Y's Bedford Room, families can get their rock 'n roll mojo back with Squeaky Clean, a hip group who know what kids like. Also at the Y, show off your decorated skin, courtesy of Amazing Face Art's elaborate creations. They'll come up with unique looks for special holiday faces and body parts painting. The Y also features Mike Valentine, caricaturist, and three hours of craft projects courtesy of Educational Warehouse. Nappy's Puppets take over the Y's upper gym and later, Merwin's Mountain Band (and special guests) give two foot-stomping shows. Meanwhile, Town Hall, TD Bank, Toquet Hall and the Historical Society have their own slate of festive family fun running throughout the evening. To view the entire list of First Night entertainment, check out the evening's website. At 9:30 p.m., entertainment ends so a family-friendly fireworks show can blast off. No need to RSVP for this New Year's gala. Just buy your button at any of the locations listed here and, check the back of the closet for your dancing shoes. First Night buttons are $15.
