Several exquisite, private gardens in historic Southport Village and Fairfield open their gates to visitors who sign on for The Discovery Museum's stellar, annual fundraising event, Discovery in the Garden on June 4.  The tour is designed to inspire garden groupies, growers, history and architecture enthusiasts as well as those who simply feel the gravitational pull of natural beauty. The gardens will be at their peak, with everything in bloom, at the time of the tour.

In addition to the self-guided garden tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there is a catered lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, adjacent to a Discovery in the Garden boutique. The boutique features vintage accessories and gift items including jewelry, stationery, custom belts and gifts for gardens. The Orchid Society will also be on hand, selling their plants from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the church.

The following day, June 5, spend the evening at a Greenfield Hill estate where you'll listen to jazz, feast on hors d'oeuvres, and have a chance to bid on auction items. You can also stand around and inhale the beauty of the surroundings. This event also benefits The Discovery Museum. Garden Tour tickets are $40. Tickets for the evening event are $100.
