Find Everything but the Fleas

Chasing down one-of-a-kinds, must-haves and simply-beautifuls to personalize your decorating scheme takes a lot of leg work. But on August 29, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion's flea market will  conserve your time, energy and design dollars. For the third year, vendors display a cache of antiques, collectibles, jewelry, household items, furniture, clothing and toys on the museum's south lawn -- with  plenty of bargains in the mix.

Stroll over to inspect the classic and collector cars on view, when you need a breather from collectible hunting. A 1904 Ford Coupe, a 1924 Model T, a 1931 DeSoto Roadster, and a 1956 Chevrolet, among other early cars, add their color and history to the event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Live music, performed by the Dixieland Band, will help you keep your energy up.

For inspiration, you can also visit the 62-room Lockwood-Mathews Mansion museum. According to its website, this 1864-built stonepile is one of this country's earliest and finest surviving Second Empire style country houses. A National Historic Landmark since 1971,  roaming its interiors offers a full, sensory Victorian Era experience. The flea market takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
