Eighty exhibitors of contemporary, functional crafts made of wood, as well as ceramics, jewelry, fiber, metal, leather, and glass bring crowds to The Bruce Museum's Outdoor Crafts Fair again this year. This festival is for serious crafty types -- both in the admirers' category and the designers. Everything offered for sale at the fair on May 22 and 23 is handmade and one-of-a-kind, whether it's jewelry, furniture, wearables, glassware or ceramics. Kids can make their own objets d'art during the festival's special activities. Live music and dance performances, as well as a variety of delicious foods, keep everyone entertained, sustained and ready for more art!
Returning again this year is fine jewelry maker Steven Kolodny of Malden Bridge, NY. He and partner Susan M. Gallagher produce their jewelry entirely by hand, primarily working in 14 and 18 karat gold and occasionally sterling silver. Often their creations combine gemstones, pearls or fossils. Steven is a master goldsmith, as well as an accomplished stone cutter. When possible, he visits fossil quarries, mineral deposits, and mining operations. He and Susan have devised a signature collection of jewelry, which features fossils in gold settings with diamonds and other precious gems. It has been praised in national publications, as well as exhibited at the NY State Museum. Festival hours are: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8.
