Duo Strum Across Time

Aztec Two-Step, the two-some website Acoustic Live! dubbed "possibly the best acoustic duo in the world today," takes the Levitt Pavilion stage for a mix of music from their early days (the 70's) to now. Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman combined forces to make music together after meeting at a Boston coffee house in 1971. They lifted the name Aztec Two-Step from a Lawrence Ferlinghetti poem.  In 1987, their album, "Living in America," received the New York Music Award for Best Folk Album and was included in Billboard’s year-end critic’s poll. In 1999, the duo was profiled in the PBS documentary, "No Hit Wonder. "In addition to their concerts, Aztec Two-Step also visits classrooms, to promote the arts. "The arts have been put on the back burner in most school curriculums. With ever dwindling resources, students are truly fortunate if they get the exposure needed to develop an appreciation for the arts," they wrote on their website.  In classroom visits, they bring  young audiences into the musical process, sparking ideas with interactive exercises, as well as pleasure.  Aztec Two-Step's free, Levitt Pavilion concert, on July 3 at 8 p.m., should be equally engaging.
