Drop In for Free Arts Day

This Sunday, Dec. 4, Westchester museums, arts centers and historical sites say, "Be our guest!" and throw open their doors — no admission required — for ArtsWestchester's annual Free Arts Day. For a full day, 30-plus participating venues offer visitors a menu of music and dance performances, storytelling and hands-on workshops to engage all age groups.

In Port Chester, The Clay Art Center has designed a lineup that includes artist demonstrations as well as the chance to craft your own bowl. Stop by the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers where houses take center stage. Try your hand at creating dollhouse-sized rooms with wallpaper, handmade furniture, artwork and small figures or, in another workshop, build a gingerbread house.

At the Westchester Fashion Academy for Children in White Plains, activities include learning how to sketch like a designer as well as a chance to view young designers' creations.

Discover Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, at The Pelham Art Center, where Indian classical dance performances, henna tattoos and more give a flavorful taste of the holiday.

Free Arts Day, sponsored by Chase Bank and Main Street Connect, on Sunday, Dec. 4, is a smorgasbord of stimulating, creative activities for families. Be sure to dig in for your helping! For information on participating venues, visit Arts Westchester's website.
