Consider This Family Camp Out

Spend the night with family members in a tent and one thing's for sure, you'll catch up on togetherness. That's just one of the benefits Stamford Museum and Nature Center has in mind with its Fall Family Camp Out on October 2-3. Kids and parents are invited to pitch their tent, on the Nature Center's lawn and indulge in a multi-sensory outdoor experience. Kids, especially ones who've never experienced camping, will revel in the sights, sounds and smells of nature and how it changes at dusk and at dark. The evening starts on Saturday, at 5:30 p.m. when Nature Center staff throw a delicious barbeque on the meadow for guests. After dinner entertainment includes a visit from the Animal Embassy representatvies, who stop by with exotic animals to see up-close and learn about. As the sky darkens, head up to the Observatory for a night sky viewing with its telescope. The Observatory is a research facility. Its telescope has new electronics and can now be controlled by hand with a joystick or by a computer. This means the person using it can pick out something in the night sky they want to see and the telescope will zero in on it automatically.

Afterwards, if you've worked up an appetite exploring the sky, there's a campfire marshmallow roast to quench it. Then, tuck in for the night in your cozy tent, knowing when morning comes, museum staff will roll out a scrumptious breakfast for you.

The cost of the campout is $140 for one parent and child, $35 for each additional family member. Registration is required and can be made at (203) 322.1646 ext. 6521. For more information, visit the Nature Center's website.
