Celebrate with Cider and Hayrides

Debut your Halloween costume on October 17, to celebrate fall’s bounty and join a costume parade led by a special guest. Then, families can dig in for some special seasonal activities. Pick pumpkins from a pumpkin patch, ride a hay wagon or sample cauldron-cooked corn on the cob, cotton candy and cider doughnuts. At Stamford Museum & Nature Center's Harvest Festival, these and other free activities on Heckscher Farm include learning what a harvest means, how apples are made into cider and where linen comes from.  Antique tool demonstrations offer a glimpse of how farming used to happen. New this year is the Festival's "haystack surprise"  where kids scout for treasures in an awful lot of straw. Face painting, children’s crafts, story telling, live music and other demonstrations offer more entertainment.

Watching from the sidelines are Heckscher Farm's many animal residents, housed in its barns or hanging out in nearby pastures. Don't forget to stop by and say "Hey" to them at the farm's chicken coop, barn and pig pen. Also ready to be checked out are the Museum's Cheshire Barn built in 1750, an organic vegetable garden and maple sugar house.  The Festival runs from from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Admission is $5-$10. There is an additional fee for some activities. For more information, visit the Museum's website.
