Celebrate The Holidays At Norwalk's Lockwood-Mathews Mansion

NORWALK, Conn. -- A day of entertainment is planned at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk on Sunday, Dec. 11.

The mansion is teaming up with the Norwalk Public Library, New Canaan Dance Academy and Matthew Surapine Studio for for an open house event.

Visitors can view the exhibit "Holiday Splendor at the Mansion: Christmas and New Year’s Celebrations," as well as enjoy music and dance surrounded by the glittering lights and other displays throughout the first floor. They can also stop by the Mansion’s Café, featuring complimentary refreshments served by the costumed interpreters courtesy of Stew Leonard’s.

The schedule of events is:

  • A special reading for children of all ages takes place noon-12:30 p.m., offered by the Norwalk Public Library in the Mansion Rotunda.
  • Santa Claus and his reindeer will make their way into the Music Room 12:30-1:30 p.m., greeting children and hearing their Christmas wishes.
  • The New Canaan Dance Academy performs 2-2:45 p.m. They will entertain with a mix of hip hop, jazz, tap and lyrical dance performances. In September, NCDA students were chosen to be the Madison Square Garden backup dancers at the halftime show of the WNBA Liberty game with Disney star Laura Marano; they will also be performing at the NBA game on March 5, 2017.
  • Matthew Surapine Studio will take center stage from 3-3:45 p.m. and perform a selection of holiday favorites, ranging from classical masterpieces to music from the Great American Songbook. Studio students -- who primarily attend Darien High School, Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, and Stamford High School -- have performed in regional and state music festivals.
