BBQ Fest Fires Up Appetites

North meets Southern barbeque when Westport fires up the grills for its Blues, Views & BBQ Festival, behind the library. On the menu September 24-26, is an A-list of chefs, who sharpen their knives to slice up some scrumptious creations. Among the list of pros is cookbook author Rick Browne who also hosts and produces public television's popular "Barbecue America" series.  On Saturday,  a Kansas City Barbeque Society professional grilling cook-off gets under way, and later that day, a BBQ "throw down" competition a la the Food Channel's "Iron Chef" program, will have everyone hopping.

Besides grill specialties, the smorgasbord of food on hand includes pizza, pies, a Whole Foods gourmet burger bar and more.

For little folks, there are several extra courses: a kids' corral will keep them herded with inflatables, and live music and street performers heat up the tempo. On Friday night, Blues Traveler performs at the Levitt Pavilion at 8 p.m. A three day pass to the Festival, for $60, includes their concert. A weekend pass is $15. Regular entrance fees are $5 for students and seniors and $10. For more information on Blues, Views & BBQ's line-up, visit its web page.
