Allen Toussaint Plays New Orleans-style

New Orleans has cradled many musical styles, jazz, rhythm and blues, funk and nurtured a large crop of native musical talents. Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, the Neville Brothers, Harry Connick, Jr., Irma Thomas, Jerry Lee Lewis all have roots in the Big Easy. Allen Toussaint is another native son, one with an especially long musical reach. He's written enduring hits including, "Working in the Coal Mine," "Mother-in-Law," "I Like It Like That," "Right Place Wrong Time" and "Southern Nights." And he's produced or made music with an army-sized list of big name performers: Elvis Costello, Dr. John, the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon and Robert Palmer, to name only some. In his 1998 induction into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, Toussaint was described as "a producer, bandleader, arranger, songwriter, session musician and all-around musical eminence."

At The Quick Center on November 12, Toussaint brings his high-powered musical skills to an evening of hot New Orleans music.  Also on the bill turning up the heat, is the "abundantly gifted" (according to the New York Times) Nicholas Payton, who among other talents is a trumpet virtuoso and The Joe Krown Trio. This trio, with Joe on piano and Hammond B-3 organ, Walter Wolfman Washington on guitar and vocals and drummer Russell Batiste, is a favorite of New Orleans jazz cognescenti. This evening of New Orleans music will be sizzler.  The performance begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and $40. For more information, visit the Center's website.
