A Taste of Danbury Bursts with Flavor

Foodies might always be searching for the next, best food event but the ones you savor serve up more than just winning dishes. That's what adds spice to A Taste of Danbury. True, it has 15 restaurants waiting to ply you with their specialties, including Spanish Caribbean entrees, hearty Italian favorites, BBQ pulled pork, homemade ice cream and much more. But it also entertains families with two days worth of satisfying activities. Fattie Roots Reggae, country band Gunsmoke and headliners The Marshall Tucker Band supply just some of the music. Food Network Celebrity Chef Michael Psilakis stops by to show off his kitchen know-how and magician Doug Billingsly stumps kids with his entertaining tricks. Children's book authors, 50 vendor booths, gymnasts, fireworks and an all-hands-on-deck zumba demonstration keep the energy up.  The backdrop for A Taste of Danbury is the city's 325th birthday celebration. In its honor, the Museum in the Streets project unveils twenty-one podium-style panel signs, each describing a unique piece of Danbury history. Known as the "hat city" because it once supplied one quarter of all U.S. hats, Danbury's colonial history is also rich. In between courses, families can read the new history panels for an even more flavorful day. A Taste of Danbury takes place noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday in downtown Danbury. Admission is free. For more information, visit its website.
