Award-winning teen-age violin virtuoso Sam Weiser plays a Fairfield Theatre Company concert with his band on April 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15. His concert coincides with the release of his new CD Sam I Am, which features a crazy quilt of musical styles, including gypsy jazz, swing, bebop, klezmer, Brazilian and folk, according to Jazz Times. Weiser has won many awards for his acoustic violin playing. Currently, the 15 year old violinist is a Manhattan School of Music student enrolled in the pre-college division. He is also the school's first student to study classical and jazz violin simultaneously.
His love of the violin started early and so did his lobbying skills. I heard my neighbor playing it for six months and I began begging my mother for a violin, he told Jazz Times. His mother got the message and started him in a Suzuki class. He was three.
About his debut CD, Sam I Am, Indie music review Zap Town said, [He has] a refined taste and sincerity and can sound as flawless in the traditional as he can when he loosens his collar and lets his hair down. And for someone with this much talent, he has every right to show off. For information or tickets, visit FTC's website.
