Simple Greek Greets Rilling, Long Lines Of Diners At Norwalk Grand Opening

NORWALK, Conn. — The line to the Simple Greek in Norwalk was out the door on Friday as the restaurant held its grand opening and ribbon cutting.

“Over 550 people showed up, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.,” said George Pertesis, who owns the restaurant with his father, John. “We sold about 400 gyros.”

“Everyone is Greek in Norwalk," said Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, who took part in the ribbon cutting. "This is great. We are happy the Simple Greek and the Pertesis family chose Norwalk as their first location. They have made more jobs for a boost in the local economy.”

This is the seventh location of the Simple Greek but the first in Connecticut. The chain was founded in 2014 by Marcus Lemonis from CNBC-TV’s hit show “The Profit."

Open every day for lunch and dinner, the Simple Greek serves traditional Greek food, including bowls and pitas filled with gyro, lentils, chicken, pork and steak. Toppings include feta cheese, garbanzo beans, pitted Kalamata olives and pepperoncinis.

“We are 100 percent Greek. We bleed blue and white,” said George Pertesis, referring to the colors of the Greek flag. The 23-year-old graduate of Fairfield University lives in Trumbull with his family.

In addition to Mayor Rilling, Samuel Lundy, president of The Simple Greek, also took part in the ribbon cutting.
