For Norwalk Filmmaker, Fairfield County Is Where The Action Is

NORWALK, Conn. -- Woody Allen may be forever tied to Manhattan and Ben Affleck to Boston, but budding filmmaker Alex Morsanutto is set on making Fairfield County his signature locale.

The Norwalk native already did one movie here: the 19-minute "Little Lion," filmed in Norwalk and Bridgeport last year (go here for a previous Daily Voice story).

Now, the 23-year-old Tisch School of the Arts grad has plans to shoot another short, “Hi-Glow Retro," a romantic comedy set in present day but with the theme of '70s disco dancing.

His goal is to do what he calls a "proof of concept" with the hopes of eventually making it into a full-length feature film.

"I want to leave audiences happy and wanting more," he said of what he expects will be a 10-minute movie. "I'm hoping it will be the film that launches the career of myself and my team of collaborators."

Because "Little Lion" was so dark, he wanted to turn the tables the second time around with a happy-go-lucky story. "It's high energy and hopefully will make you leave the theater with a smile," he said of the film he wrote and will direct and produce.

Morsanutto, founder of Silvermine Productions, which produces films, commercials, music videos and photography for an array of clients, will be holding an open casting call for "Hi-Glow-Retro" on Thursday, June 18, from 2:30 to 7 p.m. at Norwalk's Step'N'Out Dance Studios, 14 Strawberry Hill Ave.

Actors that are in the 18- to 25-year-old age range are encouraged to attend; those in high school and under 18 are welcome to audition as long as they come with a guardian.

Shooting dates are July 8 to July 12 in Norwalk and Greenwich.

Morsanutto is also asking anyone that has 1970s props/wardrobe/wigs they'd like to lend to the shoot to email higlowretro@gmail.com. He is also happy to receive emails from those who would like to participate in any way.
