According to the Maritime Aquarium's website, this Norwalk-based institution offers an immersive experience into the marine life of Long Island Sound. Visitors can engage with over 8,000 animals, including harbor seals, sand tiger sharks, and diamondback terrapins, per its website.
Pinniped Cove, a celebration of seals and a new seal habitat, opened in 2021, according to the aquarium's website.
As noted on its website, the aquarium also features four touch tanks, allowing guests to safely interact with cownose rays, Atlantic sturgeon, moon jellies, and various intertidal creatures.
President and CEO Jason Patlis expressed his gratitude for the recognition.
“The Maritime Aquarium is a place where people of all ages can make memories together! It is a great privilege to introduce our guests to the wonderful species of Long Island Sound, including harbor seals, sand tiger sharks, horseshoe crabs, and jellies," he said. "We’re thrilled to receive the Award for Best Family Activity in Fairfield County and hope you’ll come to visit us soon.”
The 2024 Daily Voice Readers' Choice contest to name the Best of the Best in Fairfield County began with reader nominations in October and ended with a voting period for finalists in 80+ categories in December.
