Stephen C. Meier, 98, Of Cortlandt CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – Stephen C. Meier, of Cortlandt Manor, died Wednesday, Aug. 5. He was 98. Meier was born on Oct. 8, 1916 in Brooklyn to Adolf and Margaret Bissert Meier. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was the assistant chief engineer in the building maintenance department at Valeria Home in Cortlandt Manor. He is survived by son Ralph and his wife Laurie of Sudbury, Mass., daughter Christa L. Dobbs Ferry Celebrates Road To Freedom Walk DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Dobbs Ferry Historical Society announced that their ninth annual Road to Freedom Walk is set for Sunday, Aug. 9. The event begins at Gould Park at 1 p.m., with folk songs, story telling, fife and drum at the Mead house at 12 Elm St. in Dobbs Ferry at 2 p.m. Re-enactors will commemorate the march of Gen. George Washington's army, which started in Dobbs Ferry on Aug. 19, 1781, and ended in Virginia with a defeat of Cornwallis' army. Kent Library Welcomes Stuffed-Animals For Sleepover CARMEL, N.Y. – The Kent Library had some small guests on Tuesday evening at a stuffed-animal sleepover for local little friends, who were dropped off by children. The animals had quite the night in the care of the librarians. The library staff took photos of the animals' mischief, as they put on a puppet show, yanking books off shelves, playing with computers and the robot minion. They enjoyed a bedtime story, and their owners picked them up the next day.

Angelo Nonna, 93, Of Pleasantville PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Angelo Nonna, of Pleasantville, died on Tuesday, Aug. 4. He was 93. Nonna was born in Civitavecchia, Italy, on Feb. 28, 1922, growing up in Viterbo, Italy. He attended art school, joined the Italian Navy in 1939 and served during World War II until Italy's surrender to the Allies in 1943. Nonna was able to escape the Germans on the island of Ischia in the Bay of Naples, where the Americans had landed.
