26-Year-Old Woman's Suspicious Death In Redding Under Investigation

Connecticut State Police's Major Crimes Squad has taken over the case of a suspicious death of a 26-year-old Fairfield County woman whose body was found in a wooded area.

The victim, identified as Leah Chaparro, of Bridgeport, was discovered on Sunday, Feb. 18 by a jogger in Redding on Route 53 (Glen Road).

Detectives are actively investigating the suspicious circumstances surrounding Chaparro’s death, state police said.

Chaparro, a graduate of Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, was known for her love of music, and dancing, and had an infectious sense of humor, according to her obituary.

"She possessed a rare gift for forging connections, effortlessly making friends wherever she went," her obituary said.

Police have not revealed how Chaparro died or much about the crime. 

Services to honor and celebrate Chaparro's life will be held at Funeraria Luz De Paz, 426 E Washington Ave, in Bridgeport, on Saturday, March 2 from 3 to 6 p.m.
