I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia,  all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

Shelton Land Trust Plants Native Pin Oak Tree At Open Space SHELTON, Conn. – The Shelton Land Conservation Trust recently planted a native pin oak tree next to the nature trail on Lane Street.  The Olde Ripton Garden Club, with assistance from the Federated Garden Club of Connecticut, donated the tree. The clubs’ program “Growing Together” is attempting to plant a native oak tree in every Connecticut community where there is a member garden club. Stroke Survivor From Wilton Finishes New York City Marathon WILTON, Conn. – Wilton resident Merideth Gilmor, 38, founder of Modern Global Communications, finished the New York City Marathon on Sunday, a year after suffering a stroke, the Wilton Bulletin reported. She completed the 26.2-mile course in in 6 hours, 4 minutes, and 47 seconds, the Bulletin said.  She always had been healthy and active, and had no family history or other risk factors for stroke, the story said. Eastchester’s teams were the Eggheads (grades 4-6) and the Peculiar Children, after the Ransom Riggs series, (grades 6-9). The Battle of the Books is a fast-paced trivia game, with an emphasis on teamwork.
