I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia, all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

World’s Fair Arrives At McKinley School In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. – McKinley School is having its eighth annual World’s Fair on Saturday, Nov. 7. McKinley students and their families from over 20 different countries share their heritage with the help of entertainers who sing, dance, and provide other performances. The event lasts from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and includes international foods, crafts, and games.

Bridgeport Receives $10 Million Tiger Grant For Barnum Train Station BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery fund, better known as TIGER, has awarded a $10 million grant to Bridgeport, Bridgeport’s congressional delegation, along with Gov. Dannel Malloy, announced. Southport’s Pequot Library Displays Christopher Columbus Letters SOUTHPORT, Conn. – Pequot Library’s newest exhibit in the “Pages from Pequot” series is “Exploring America: Christopher Columbus.” It is on display through Jan. 15 in the rare book cases in Pequot Library’s Reading Room. On display will be primary source material dating from 1493 – early 1900s. The exhibition, includes more than 20 of Pequot Library’s rare books about Columbus and his expeditions, including a facsimile of a letter he wrote about his 1492 journey. Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium Offers Discounts During Coat Drive NORWALK, Conn. – The Maritime Aquarium will give a discount to visitors who donate a new or gently worn used coat Saturday and Sunday. During the aquarium’s “Warm Coats, Warm Hearts Weekend,” adults will receive $5 off the $19.95 admission and children will receive $3 off the $12.95 admission price. Bridgeport Rescue Mission Prepares To Provide Thanksgiving Meals BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport Rescue Mission is preparing for its annual Great Thanksgiving Project: to provide 3,000 Thanksgiving dinners (including a frozen turkey and a bag of sides) to struggling families, and to serve thousands of Thanksgiving dinners to Mission residents and guests.
