New Canaan Community Foundation Awards $12,500 Grant To Homeless Shelter NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Stamford's Shelter for the Homeless received a $12,500 grant from the New Canaan Community Foundation Thursday, May 19 at a ceremony at the New Canaan Library. The money will support the organization’s emergency meals program, which allows for 60-110 nutritious meals to be served to homeless men and young adults that come to Pacific House shelter each night. In 2015, Pacific House emergency shelter served nearly 50,000 meals and provided 29,000 bed nights to homeless men and young adults from the community. The center offers health and wellness through education, recreation, fitness, information, assistance and spiritual guidance. The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays. The Kip Center is at 55 Kip Avenue, Rutherford.

Richard A. Martin, 72, Ossining Resident OSSINING, N.Y. – Richard A. “Willy” Martin, of Ossining, died Monday, July 4. He was 72. He was born Feb. 9, 1944. He was a 47-year member of the Ossining Fire Department, Monitor Hose Company #4 and was a former captain. He retired from Ossining Union Free School District. He spent the last seven years at the Firemen Home in Hudson. Visiting hours will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Dorsey Funeral Home Inc., 14 Emwilton Place, Ossining, followed by a service at the funeral home.

Greenwich Police Lt. Richard Cochran Retires GREENWICH, Conn. – Lt. Richard Cochran has retired from the Greenwich Police Department. A Dr. John A. Clarke Award winner, Cochran completed 35 years of service with the Greenwich Police Department. He was sworn in as officer in 1981 and graduated from the 161st Connecticut Municipal Police Training Council’s Basic Police Academy. Cochran was promoted through the ranks and had positions within several of the department’s specialty units, including the Special Response Team, K-9 officer, police instructor and honor guard. Putnam Humane Society Pampers Canine Friends At Dog Wash Day Of Summer CARMEL, N.Y. – The Putnam Humane Society will bathe and pamper canine family members during the Dog Wash Day of Summer from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Putnam Humane Society. Low-cost microchipping by a licensed vet tech and pedicures for pups also will be available. A bath is $15, pedicures are $15 and microchipping is $25. Former Danbury City Councilwoman Nominated To Fill Council Vacancy DANBURY, Conn. – The Danbury Republican Town Committee has nominated former Councilwoman Colleen Stanley to fill a vacancy on the council, according to a report by WLAD.
