Stamford, New Canaan Golfers Earn Big East Honors

Stamford's Peter Ballo, a sophomore at St. John's, and Georgetown's Curtis Loop, a sophomore from New Canaan, were named Thursday to All-Big East in men's golf Thursday.

Ballo had an outstanding spring season, leading the Red Storm with a 73.64 round average over five stroke play events. The former Trinity Catholic High star finished fourth in the Big East championships last week. His brother, Mike Ballo Jr., was an All-Big East selection last year.

Loop, a transfer from Cal, earned All-Big East honors after an impressive first season on the Hilltop. He led the team in stroke average at 74.67 and tied for the team lead in rounds played (27). Loop had three Top 10 finishes, five among the Top 20 and nine among the Top 40 and finished the season with seven even- or under-par rounds. He finished 16th in the Big East Championships.
