New Canaan Girls U13 Soccer Team Takes Home Championship

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan girls U13 Red soccer team recently came away with the District A championship, nipping Darien Blue, 2-1.

New Canaan entered the playoff tournament as the top-ranked team after an undefeated regular season.

The girls topped the Stamford Hurricanes in the semifinal, 2-0, setting up their showdown with Darien.

The Darien Blue squad opened the game scoring a goal off a direct kick just outside the penalty area. But the New Canaan U13 Girls Red fought hard and came back scoring a goal one minute into the second half followed by the game winner with 20 minutes left to play.

The team finished its season with 30 goals scored for New Canaan and only five goals against, never ceding more than one goal in any game.

Team members are Katelyn Sparks, Joelle Anselmo, Claire Ross, India Otero, Jessie Eccleston, Lucy Coutts, Bridget Salmini, Jessie Dolby, Libby Tedford, Whitney Bryant, Meghan Kloud, Lauren Sampson, Kayla Beck, Caroline Schuh, K.K. Marcus, Sarah Spadaccini, Ella Goodman, and Ryann Mushkin. The coach is Barry Beattie.
