Fairfield County Rowers Aim for Olympic Berths

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – New Canaan’s Andrew Campbell and Weston’s Nick LaCava will be among members of the United States rowing team looking to secure a berth in the Summer Olympics in the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta beginning Sunday in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Campbell will compete in the lightweight men’s double sculls with Will Daly of Vail, Colo. Campbell earned a bronze medal last year in the World Rowing Under 23 Championships and finished fourth in the lightweight single at the 2011 World Rowing Championships. Daly is a national team member who competed in the Beijing Olympics. Campbell and Daly need to finish in the top two in the field of 16 to earn a berth in the Summer Games.

LaCava will compete on the lightweight men’s four. LaCava’s crew will need to finish in the top two two to reach London.

Campbell and LaCava will race Sunday in the first round of heats. Campbell’s final will be Wednesday. LaCava’s final is scheduled for Tuesday.
