Police: Trumbull Man Stole $9K Worth Of Cigarettes, Caused Damage At Two Westport Businesses

A Trumbull man is facing charges after police say he stole approximately $9,000 in cigarettes and caused damage to two Westport businesses.

Westport Police responded to Riverside Sunoco on the report of a burglary on Friday, Jan. 4. The caller observed the suspect make a forced entry.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect stole more than $5,000 worth of cigarettes and caused over $1,400 of damage to the front door and cash register.

The suspect was later identified as Christopher Dahlinger of Trumbull. Police obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Westport Police also responded to a report of a burglary at Wheels (786 Post Road E.) on Saturday, Jan. 19 around 4:30 a.m. The suspect allegedly entered the store by smashing through the front window with a garbage can.

The suspect stole about $4,000 worth of cigarettes, and after unsuccessfully attempting to pry open the cash register, the suspect left with it as well.

Police say the same vehicle was used in both of these incidents. Officers obtained a warrant for Dahlinger’s arrest.

Dahlinger was arrested at Norwalk Superior Court on the outstanding warrant on Wednesday, March 27. He was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief.

Dahlinger was held in lieu of $50,000 court set bond. He was scheduled to be arraigned later that day.
