NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- A health care worker for a New Canaan resident was charged with forging checks in her patient's name and using their credit card without authorization, according to police.

New Canaan Police received a complaint on Aug. 17, 2016 of missing checks and money from a bank account. After an investigation, police determined that 33-year-old Ramatu Al-Hassan of the Bronx was working as a health care worker for the victim at their residence, according to police.

It was determined that in August of 2016, Al-Hassan had used the victim's credit card without authorization, and signed checks with the victim's name and then cashed those checks, according to police. The total loss to the victim was about $2,000 in forged checks and $867 in credit card charges, police said.

On Sept. 15, New Canaan Police traveled to Stamford Police headquarters to take custody of Al-Hassan, who had been arrested by Stamford Police on other charges. New Canaan Police charged Al-Hassan with fourth-degree larceny, three counts of charging less than $500 on a revoked credit card, and two counts of second-degree forgery. She was held on a $5,000 bond and will appear in court on Sept. 27.
