It allegedly happened Sunday, July 21 at around 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Waveny Pool, said New Canaan Police.
Officers were called there regarding a man later identified as Leonard Childs Depaur, 62, of New Canaan, who had allegedly struck a woman in the face, according to police.
Investigating officers determined that Depaur went up to the woman who was standing outside of the pool in a designated smoking area where she was smoking a cigarette, said police.
Depaur reportedly approached the woman advising her that she should not be smoking as children were around the pool and additionally she should be considerate of the environment, according to New Canaan Police.
The investigation determined that Depaur then struck the victim on her left cheek after yelling at her about smoking the cigarette, police said.
Depaur was issued a misdemeanor summons for second-degree breach of peace violation/threat at the scene for the and released on a promise to appear in court on Monday, July 29.
