Richard A. Engelke, 80, Residential Builder, Formerly Of New Canaan

NAPLES, Fla. - Richard A. Engelke, of Naples, Fla., formerly a longtime New Canaan and Norwalk resident, died Tuesday, March 26. He was 80.

Engelke was born in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1932, son of Catherine Johnson and Arthur Engelke. He served as an army paratrooper in the Korean War. After being discharged, he moved to Connecticut where he started as a mason and eventually became a residential builder.

Engelke is survived by his former wife, Theresa Engelke; sons, Richard J. Engelke (Karen Ferraro) of Newtown, Conn., Mark Engelke (Nicole) of Chatham, N.J.; Ronald Engelke; sister, Margaret Fagan of Watertown, Conn.; eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Robert Engelke.

Calling hours are Friday, March 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan. A Funeral Blessing will be held Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at St Aloysius Church, Cherry St., New Canaan, Conn. Interment will be at St John Cemetery, Norwalk.
