She was born Nov. 15, 1913, to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Grallo (Grace). After matriculating through the New Canaan school system, she met August O. "Augie" Curcio of Cos Cob through a blind date arranged by her sister. They married and had two sons. Following her husband's untimely passing in 1960, she worked as a seamstress before opening La Petite Shop, a store for young women, downtown. She would later transition into the bridal business and open Bridal Couture. After becoming involved with the Nature Center, she became an avid gardener. She was also renowned as a quintessential Italian chef.
She took up painting in the 1990s after getting involved with the senior program at Waveny. She continued to remain active in her last years, thanks to the help of Staying Put in New Canaan. In November of 2013, family and friends gathered to celebrate her 100th birthday at the Roger Sherman Inn in New Canaan.
She is survived by her son Peter S. Curcio of Punta Gorda, Florida; and grandchildren Katherine M. Curcio and Peter John August Curcio, both of Naples, Florida.
She was predeceased by her husband, August O. "Augie" Curcio; and her son August R. "Skip" Curcio, through whom she had three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan, with burial to follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
