Kenneth Pinder, 81, New Canaan Volunteer Firefighter

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Kenneth A. Pinder, a lifelong New Canaan resident, died Feb. 7 at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by family. He was 81.

Pinder was a 50-year active member of the New Canaan Volunteer Fire Department. He worked for Home Oil of New Canaan for 35 years.

Born June 1, 1931, in Norwalk, he was the son of Kenneth Whiteford Plowman and Carlita Weed Pinder. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954, stationed at the Naval Minecraft Base in Charleston, S.C.

He grew up on Nursery Road in a traditional farmhouse, his family said. His great-grandparents were one of the first families to settle in New Canaan. He attended New Canaan schools, including the former Center School.

Pinder was an avid fisherman and a New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was recently a resident of the Schoolhouse Apartments for the past 15 years, residing in his high school homeroom classroom.

He is survived by his former wife, Theresa "Tessie" Socci Pinder; a son, Kenneth Joseph Pinder; two daughters, Carlita Socci Jordan and Charlene Socci Petrucci; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan.
