There are 75 gingerbread house kits available on a first-come, first-served basis. The houses will be displayed in local store windows during the annual New Canaan Chamber of Commerce Holiday Stroll on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, according to a press release. The ninth annual Gingerbread House Tour is underwritten by Halstead Property.

“You don’t have to be Hansel or Gretel to appreciate the creativity and enthusiasm that our young people exhibit each year when building and decorating their own gingerbread houses,” said Tucker Murphy, executive director of the chamber, in the release. “This is a wonderful tradition that our ancestors brought with them to the New World. Keeping it alive is one of the more enjoyable rites of the holiday season.”

The free gingerbread house kits are available at Halstead’s offices at 183 Elm St. The houses will be on display in store windows throughout town during December.

The Holiday Stroll is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 and  10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7. For additional information, contact the chamber at 203-966-2004.
