NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Library has a new app that allows residents to more easily check out books.

Library patrons can lighten their wallets by moving the New Canaan Library card to their phones, according to the library's website. Residents can use their smartphones to check out books, DVDs, and more at the library's self checkout station.

The free CardStar app for both Android and Apple smartphones is available for download. After installing the free app, residents are asked to search for the New Canaan Library and enter their library barcode number. When ready to checkout, residents can load up the New Canaan Library CardStar app and scan the barcode at the adult self-checkout station.
