Best-selling author of "The Pearl That Broke Its Shell," Hashimi is an Afghanistan-born pediatrician whose books focus on strong female characters. In her newest novel, the story revolves around Zeba, an Afgan housewife imprisoned after her husband is found murdered.
Before Hashimi's presentation in New Canaan, there will be a light reception at the library, 151 Main St. Hashimi was raised in New York and New Jersey before settling in Maryland with her husband and four children.
She attended Brandeis University, obtained a medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and trained in pediatrics at New York University. She is an advocate for women's rights and a public speaker, library officials said.
