Coworkers and friends of the 44-year-old Massachusetts woman who was killed by a shark while on vacation in the Bahamas say they are heartbroken and shocked by her death. Lauren Van Wart, of Lowell, located northwest of Boston, was attacked by a shark on Monday, Dec. 4, about a mile from Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort while she was paddleboarding with a relative, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said. Van Wart worked at Curriculum Associates, an educational material company in Billerica. Rob Waldron, CEO of the company, said she was a beloved member of the company. …

Missing Diver: Friends Continue Search For Former CT Police Officer In Bahamas
Friends and family members of a former Connecticut police officer are continuing their search for the missing man who disappeared while free-diving in the Bahamas. To help fund the mission for Hartford County resident Ryan Proulx, age 31, of East Hartford, the group has started a GoFundMe in an effort to raise enough money to keep the mission going now that the US Coast Guard has called off the search. A well-known man from Fairfield County who owned a beloved store in Northern Westchester has died. Stamford resident Joseph DiPietro, Sr. died on Friday, Feb. 10 at the age of 90, according to his obituary. DiPietro, who lived an "extraordinary life," was the owner of Chubby's Hardware in Pound Ridge located at 68 Westchester Ave., which was named after his childhood nickname, his obituary said. West Haven Man Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash, Police Say
A 21-year-old Connecticut man and University of New Haven student was killed in a crash after the vehicle he was riding in struck a tree, police said. The crash took place in New Haven around 3:30 a.m., Saturday, April 9 on Congress Avenue. Responding officers located a black Chevrolet Cruz that had struck a tree. Trailblazing, Sidney Poitier, the first Black actor to win an Oscar, a longtime New York resident has died. Bahamian Prime Minister Phillip Davis made the announcement that Poitier died on Thursday, Jan. 8 at the age of 94. An Avon counselor who worked in the New Haven Public School District allegedly billed Medicaid hundreds of times for services he never provided - and at least some of those charges were made while he was on a cruise to the Bahamas.
