Powerball Win: $50K Prize Given Out In CT
Although no one in Connecticut was lucky enough to win the jaw-dropping $1.765 billion Powerball jackpot, one fortunate lottery player in the Nutmeg State still came away with a respectable $50,000.
The third-prize-winning Powerball ticket, worth $50,000, was sold for the drawing on Wednesday, Oct. 11, Connecticut Lottery announced.
The winner, whose name was not revealed, matched four numbers but failed to match the Powerball number and earn an extra $50,000 through the Power Play.

A New Haven County resident used some meaningful numbers to turn his dream of winning the lottery to a reality.
Michael Chesson, of Meriden, played the Connecticut Lottery's Powerball game with numbers that were a combination of the years when his parents were born and his house number.
When Michael checked his ticket for the Wednesday, Jan. 25 drawing while lying in bed, he thought he was dreaming, the lottery reports.
"I yelled, 'Alexa, turn on the light,' because I couldn't see all that well," Michael said, according to the lottery.

An unnamed Hartford resident claimed the "Lucky For Life" prize from a ticket purchased at Road Runners in Rocky Hill, the Connecticut Lottery announced on Friday, Dec. 9.

The largest Powerball jackpot in history is now one for the books.
A winning ticket for the record $2.04 billion Powerball lottery jackpot was sold in Altadena, California, in the Verdugo Mountains region of Los Angeles County.
Instead of being held at its traditional 10:59 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Nov. 7, the drawing was performed at 8:57 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 at the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.
