18-Year-Old From CT Killed In Jet Ski Accident
A 2021 high school graduate from Fairfield County is being remembered by friends and family after he was killed when two jet skis collided in the Long Island Sound.
Matthew (Matt) Horvath, age 18, of Shelton, died on Tuesday, July 27, in Milford, said Will Healy, spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Healy said Horvath was killed in a boating accident in which jet skis collided in the Sound.
He was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Healy said.

Bacteria Found In Long Island Sound Causing Rare Illness In Connecticut, CT DPH Says
Five Long Island Sound swimmers throughout Connecticut have contracted Vibrio vulnificus, a life-threatening infection, in the last three months; between 2010 and 2019, only seven state residents have reported infections, the Connecticut Department of Health said in a new report.
The infection, which can also be contracted by eating undercooked seafood, afflicts those whose open wounds come into contact with salt water, or the juices of raw seafood, containing the bacteria.
