A 50-year-old Massachusetts man who once served as postmaster for a Fairfield County post office has admitted to defrauding the US Postal Service out of over $874,000 as part of a bribery, kickback, and embezzlement scheme that he operated, officials announced.
Former Brookfield resident Ephrem D. Nguyen, age 50, pleaded guilty to a fraud offense related to his scheme on Friday, Oct. 13, the US Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut announced.

CT Woman Wanted For Robberies, Nabbed After Ramming Police Cars, Police Say
A Fairfield County woman wanted for a string of car robberies and other crimes was arrested after crashing into eight police vehicles, and injuring seven officers.
Hannah Casperson, age 25, of Brookfield, was arrested on Sunday, April 3, in Monroe.
The incident started in New Haven County in Waterbury around 8:45 a.m., Sunday police received information that Casperson, who was wanted for the robberies, and a host of other crimes was in the area in a white Hummer, said Lt. Ryan Bessette, of the Waterbury Police.

Nearly 10,000 residents in Connecticut are still without power more than 24 hours after Tropical Depression Ida made its way through the region.
As of 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, 8,721 of Eversource’s 1.286 million Connecticut customers were still reporting outages, while United Illuminated was still working to repair 127 active outages that were impacting 509 of the company’s customers.
