CT Company To Close, 71 Employees To Lose Jobs
A company is closing its Fairfield County plant causing 71 employees to lose their jobs. Cascades Containerboard Packaging in Newtown said in a letter to the First Selectman Jeffery Capeci, its intent to permanently close its manufacturing facility located at 1 Edmond Road, between April 12 and April 26. With not enough blockbuster movies to screen, on Thursday, Oct. 8 Regal Cinemas is temporarily closing more than 500 theaters in the U.S. and Canada. Delivery company Sheffield Express in Bristol will close on Sept. 30 - all 95 employees are set to lose their jobs. The closure is expected to be permanent, said owner John Riley in a letter to the Connecticut Rapid Response Team. The company employs 95 delivery diverse, Riley said. Amazon To Lay Off More Than 50 Employees At CT Distribution Site
Layoffs are predicted now that Amazon has cut ties with Bristol distributor Systemized Logistics. Almost two years ago, Amazon opened a “delivery station” in Bristol’s 229 Technology Park. It was a sorting destination with an initial staff of 100 people. Estimates said the number of employees could grow to as many as 500, said Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu.
